Parental kidnapping case; mother found with children in Mexico

As a parent who has primary custody of your child, you want to know that when your child goes to the other parent's house for visitation, he or she is going to be safe. In most cases, parents work together and want what is best for their children. They stay in contact and make sure the child is cared for and returned to the other parent in accordance with court guidelines.

Sometimes, that doesn't happen, though, and that's when a parental kidnapping case can become a serious concern. Delaying the return of a child, lying about where the child is, or fleeing with a child is against the law in most circumstances, except for in very few exceptional situations.

Take for example this case involving a mother who disappeared with her children. The three children who were missing from North Carolina have been located in Mexico, according to a June 23 report. The children, ages 2, 7 and 10, were found safe with their mother, who faces three counts for International Parental Kidnapping. She was arrested in Mexico, where she was discovered.

The 10-page criminal complaint that had been filed against the woman stated that she was having two custody disputes at the time of her disappearance. One was with the father of her two sons, and the other was with the father of her daughter. The boys' father dropped them off in Nov. 2014 to their maternal grandmother, and that was the last time he saw his children, despite a custody agreement stating otherwise. Now, the children will be coming back to the United States and rejoining their father.
