You can get help with divorce through mediation sessions

Divorce mediation might be right for you if you and your spouse are having a disagreement but can work together to get past it. Mediation can help you work through struggles with communication, so you can negotiate without standstills. Mediation helps with child custody, child support, alimony, property division and other factors of your divorce.

What does the mediator do during a session?

Mediators are neutral parties. It's not their job to tell you what is or is not a good trade or division plan. The goal of the mediator is to help guide you until you come up with agreements that both of you can at least be in agreement over. The mediator makes sure both parties get to speak for a time without interruptions and gives information about the legal system when it's needed.

How long are mediation sessions?

Typical sessions run for one to two hours, and there are several sessions used to work with couples. The issues that need to be discussed are identified first, and then at the next session, the couple brings all relevant information to the session to go over it with the mediator present.

What happens after agreements are made?

When both parties can come to an agreement, then the mediator drafts an agreement that can be given to your attorney for official negotiations and documentation with the court.
